Advent Calendar 2020 #15-18 - Rozelieures Vertical

Tasting 24 samples totally blind in December 2020, you can find more here. All notes except the very last few sentences are written before reveal. Disclaimer: These are all very small drams, around 1.5-2 cl each, so doing a proper tasting is challenging. I'll do my best! For 15 through 18, I knew they were connected in some way but didn't know anything else about them. They were tasted side by side.

1.2 (Chestnut oloroso sherry)

Nose

Deep, murky, char, cooked fruits.

Palate

Light peat. Big, fruity and powerful.

Finish

Dry, light bonfire, medium length.

Quite different from nose to palate and onward. Alright, nothing special. Quite disappointing finish.

0.4 (Jonquiripe corn)

Nose

Rubber, butter (lots of it), grapefruit, white pepper, slight peat.

Palate

It has some peat, but then? Malt? Whisky flavor? Extremely commonplace.

Finish

Citric, dry, tannic.

A very nameless palate after an interesting and buttery nose.

1.3 (Russet muscat)

Nose

Fresh fruits, citrus-heavy, apple cider, perfume. Very sweet.

Palate

Light, thin, even watery.

Pepper, oak. Short.

Where did it go? Again, interesting nose but then... nothing.

1.3 (Russet muscat)

Nose

Apples, malt, pear & vanilla ice cream, perfume. Very sweet. Not unlike the previous dram.

Palate

"Thin" is all I wrote here.

Finish

Tannic, short dry.

Welp. Another fun nose, another anonymous and thin follow-up.

Reveal: Rozelieures! Completely new to me. Fun, but not something I'll be on the lookout for. The common theme here was intriguing scents on the nose - but then total disappointment as the rest of the whisky fell flat. Check out my other advent tastings!
